What to Pack for a Narrowboat Holiday

Packing for a canal boat holiday is slightly different from packing for a standard hotel stay. Space on a narrowboat is cleverly utilised, but hard suitcases can be tricky to store!

The Essential Checklist

1. Soft Bags are Best

If you can, bring soft holdalls or duffel bags rather than hard-shelled suitcases. Once unpacked, soft bags can easily be folded flat and stored neatly under the beds. Travelling from overseas? We can store your empty hard cases at our Middlewich base while you cruise!

2. Non-Slip Deck Shoes

You will be stepping on and off the boat to operate locks, tie up mooring ropes, and visit towpath pubs. A good pair of rubber-soled, non-slip trainers or deck shoes is absolutely essential for your safety.

3. Layers and Waterproofs

The British weather is famously unpredictable! Bring plenty of layers (t-shirts, fleeces, and warm jumpers) that you can add or remove as you cruise, plus a lightweight waterproof jacket for the captain.
