Essential Trip Planning

How do I decide upon a suitable holiday?

To choose a holiday suitable for you and your crew, think about where you would like to go, the number of berths/boats required, and the month of travel, as each route can take a different character at different times of the year. Decide between a short break (3-4 nights) or 1 week or more.

What happens when I book my narrowboat?

Once you have booked your boat, keep in touch about your requirements. You will receive a booking reference number to manage your party and payment details online. When booking more than 10 weeks away, you can pay a deposit; otherwise, the full balance is required.

What time can we arrive and when do we return?

Your boat will be ready for you at 2:30 PM on your start day. Please try to arrive promptly so we can begin your boat handling tuition. On your final day, the boat must be returned to our Middlewich base and vacated by 9:30 AM to allow us to prepare it for the next guests.

How do I work a boat, bridges, and locks?

Don't worry! We have had thousands of first-time boaters over our 40 years. We are ideally located in Middlewich right next to a set of 3 locks, so our hirers get full hands-on tuition in boat handling, lock operation, and waterways safety before they set off.

"On arriving at the boat yard we were shown our 69ft boat and given instruction on driving and working the locks... Thanks Andersen Boats for a great experience." - TripAdvisor Review

What is included in the holiday price?

Your hire cost includes the boat, bed linen, a full inventory of equipment for self-catering, gas (for cooking, hot water, and heating), and ALL fuel. We provide a full tank of diesel, which is more than enough for a standard week's cruising. We also provide free, secure car parking onsite for the duration of your stay.

Can we have groceries delivered?

Yes! Many of our customers choose to have their holiday groceries delivered by a supermarket (like Tesco or Sainsbury's) directly to our boatyard in Middlewich. Please ensure you schedule the delivery for after 2:30 PM on your arrival day so you are here to receive it.

What should I take with me?

Boats are equipped with all items for cooking, bedding, Radio, CD, TV, and DVD. Bring towels (unless visiting from overseas), non-slip soft deck shoes, a torch, and appropriate clothing. Since the sun's rays are powerful on the water, we recommend sunglasses and sun hat even in moderate weather.

Can I charge my phone and use electrical items?

Yes. All our boats are equipped with 12v sockets (car charger style) and all have 240v power via an inverter. We recommend 12v leads for phones and tablets, and keeping the engine running when using the inverter to maintain battery levels.

Where can we stop overnight?

You can stop overnight anywhere along the towpath side without charge, unless otherwise signposted. Please avoid mooring within 50 metres of a lock or bridge to allow other boats to pass without restriction.
